Fee Status

The Department for Education has announced that access to Home fee status for individuals holding leave under one of the three Ukraine Schemes (i.e. the Ukraine Family Scheme, the Homes for Ukraine Sponsorship Scheme or the Ukraine Extension Scheme) has now been extended to members of their family as well. Eligible family members are defined as:

  • spouse/civil partner of an individual granted leave under one of the three Ukrainian Schemes.
  • child/step-child of an individual granted leave under one of the three Ukraine Schemes (the child must have been under the age of 18 years on the leave application date).

The extension to this Home fees category will come into effect from 1 August 2023. A student who commenced their study under a different type of leave but subsequently obtains leave under the Ukraine Schemes during their course will be eligible for Home fee status for subsequent year(s) of their course.

The full criteria for the Ukraine Schemes Home fees category can be found on UKCISA's website here.

Current students or undergraduate offer holders who believe they are eligible for Home fee status under this category should contact their College admissions office, who will then support them in submitting the documents below to the University's Fee Policy Manager. Postgraduate applicants/offer holders need to send these documents to the University's Postgraduate Admissions Office.

The documents that will be required for the fee status assessment are:

  • a completed Fee Status Questionnaire.
  • a copy of your Home Office letter or Residence Permit granting you leave to remain in the UK under one of the Ukrainian Schemes, or outside the immigration rules (LOTR) on the basis of compelling compassionate grounds other than family and private life, medical, asylum or protection grounds.
  • Evidence that you have resided in the UK / Islands since you received your grant of leave, such as a letter from your sponsor (if applicable).
  • Evidence of your arrival date in the UK, such as your flight/Eurostar/ferry ticket or UK immigration stamp in your passport

If your claim for Home fee status is based on an application falling outside the immigration rules, please also submit evidence of your residence in the Ukraine immediately before 1 January 2022, and also evidence that you left Ukraine in connection with the Russian invasion. Please contact the Fee Policy Manager or the Postgraduate Admissions Office as appropriate if you will have any problems obtaining evidence of this.

When your Ukraine Scheme Leave ends

If you have been assessed Home fees as a person with leave under the Ukraine Schemes, you will remain a Home fee student for the duration of your course, even if your Ukraine Leave is not extended. The only requirement is that you continue to have immigration permission to live and study in the UK, such as switching to a student visa.
